The pCPC (Preparative Centrifugal Partition Chromatography) is a specialized system developed by RotaChrom designed to handle a variety of purification tasks. It combines two major components: the iCPC, RotaChrom’s industrial-scale Centrifugal Partition Chromatography device, and a customized solvent handling system. This integrated platform supports multiple chromatographic techniques, including separation, isolation, and remediation, delivering high throughput and purity on a process-scale volume while minimizing running costs through an automated solvent regeneration system.

Key Features of the pCPC System

  • Versatility: The pCPC system can be optimized for different purification goals (separation, isolation, remediation) without requiring extensive method development or hardware modifications.
  • Integrated Solvent Handling: The system includes dedicated “legs” for solvent recycling tailored to specific tasks, enhancing flexibility and efficiency.
  • Process Simulation Engine: RotaChrom’s engineering team has developed a simulation engine to help clients predict and define the entire pCPC process, facilitating efficient planning and execution of system installation and operational changes.

Purification Modes

  • Isolation: This mode focuses on selectively fractionating a specific Compound of Interest (CoI) from a complex matrix. The pCPC’s resolving power makes it ideal for targeting single CoIs amid diverse compounds with varying physico-chemical properties.
  • Separation: In this mode, the input matrix is simplified but contains at least two CoIs. The pCPC handles challenging separations, such as those involving isomers with minimal differences, providing the necessary selectivity and constant solvent regeneration.
  • Remediation: This involves removing unwanted components that negatively impact the CoI’s efficacy or pose environmental or health risks. The pCPC can remediate a wide range of impurities, ensuring that eliminated constituents are not reintroduced into the system.

Applications and Benefits

The pCPC’s flexibility makes it suitable for various chromatographic purifications, offering:

  • High Yields and Purity: Achieving excellent results for complex separations.
  • Cost Efficiency: Reduced solvent consumption through integrated solvent regeneration.
  • Continuous Operation: Consistent quality and quantity of purified products.
  • Ease of Optimization: Simple adjustments to meet specific purification goals without extensive modifications.
